License Plates - Police more flexible
Right now, the plates are a real headache for some 180,000 motocyclistes. From July 1, following an amendment to the Road (Construction and Use) Regulations Act, two-wheelers must be equipped a plate placed horizontally in front.

From the one side, the NTA says that these plates are in the legislation, on the other side, the police, said they would be more flexible about tickets. At least until the procedure is decided by the authorities.

These are the dealers of motorcycles that have sounded the alarm. They said the structure does not allow a motorcycle plate is placed horizontally in front of motorcycles. "Indeed, a moratorium was granted until July 1, but no solution could be found. These plates at the front could be dangerous. We can not jeopardize the safety of motorcyclists since the bikes were not designed to be a plaque at the front, "said a motorcycle dealer in the capital.

Appajala Cyril, Principal Officer at the National Transport Authority (NTA), shows that the criteria have been defined in our legislation. According to Articles 57-60 of the Act, all new retro-reflective plates must comply with British standards. "Thus, all vehicles, including motorcycles, must be provided," said he.

In central fire station, a source tells us that the authorities want to take for example the British Standard. "This decision is contradictory because since 2001, in England, the bikes are equipped with plate and rear. This new regulation is subject to much confusion. "Meanwhile, we understand that the police would be "flexible to motorcyclists." In the coming days, the technicians of the NTA and the Department of Transport should meet to decide what to do.
