2018 Suzuki Swift launched in South Africa
The 2018 Suzuki Swift has been launched in South Africa in GA and GL grades.

The hatchback is manufactured in India at Suzuki's plant in Gujarat. Exports from India to South Africa commenced earlier this year in April 2018.

The base GA trim features body colour A- and B-pillars, black ORVMs, and 14-inch steel rims. It gets basic features like manual air conditioning and power windows. The GL grade adds 15-inch rims with wheel covers, black finish A and B-pillars, body colour ORVMs with turn indicators, fog lamps, multifunction steering wheel, 2-DIN audio unit with Bluetooth support, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Both trims get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage points.

For South Africa, the Suzuki Swift is being offered with a 1.2 L K12M petrol engine. This 4-cylinder unit develops 61 kW at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Customers can choose from a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. It tips the scales at 875-880 kg (kerb weight). As per official data, the 2018 Suzuki Swift returns 4.9 L per 100 km. It has a top speed of 170 km/h (manual)/165 km/h (AMT) and can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 12.0 s (manual)/13.5 s (AMT). The Swift 1.2 AMT is only available in GL grade.

The third generation Suzuki Swift was unveiled in Japan back in December 2016. It is based on Suzuki's Heartect platform. Compared to its predecessor, the 2018 Suzuki Swift is 10 mm shorter, but sits on a 20 mm longer wheelbase. It is 40 mm wider than the model it replaces.
