Saint Pierre bypass project takes shape
A bypass will soon be constructed at Saint Pierre following the setting up of the Triolet and Goodlands bypass.

The project is estimated at Rs 200 million. Construction work will start in September.

A senior official at the Road Development Authority, who preferred to remain anonymous, told The Independent that the road would be built at the rear of Apollo Bramwell Hospital, Moka, to Verdun, bypassing the Saint Pierre industrial zone.

The officer added that feasibility studies have already been carried out. Requests for bids have been launched and the submission of proposition will be carried out by June 28.

Provision for the project has been made in the 2011 budget. There are huge traffic jams in the regions of Réduit, Mont Desert Alma, Helvetia and Saint Pierre during peak hours, mainly due to the setting up of the new building of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and the Helvetia Commercial Centre.
