2018 Maruti Swift production underway in Gujarat
MSIL is gearing up to launch the 2018 Maruti Swift early next year.

According to a report by RushLane, the next-gen Swift will be launched in February and its production is already underway at the company's facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

The report states that Maruti has stopped production of the outgoing model completely. Pending orders of the Maruti Swift will be fulfilled with units that some dealers have in their inventory. However, some dealers do not have any units left in stock and have instead promised customers delivery of the new 2018 Maruti Swift in February next year.

Maruti will showcase the new Swift for the first time to the Indian public at the 2018 Auto Expo. The event will kick off on February 7 for the media and will open its gates to the general public on February 9. As was the case with the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which broke cover at the 2016 edition of the event, the company is likely to officially launch the 2018 Maruti Swift within a month of its official debut.

Recent media reports claim that the regular petrol and diesel variants of the Swift, powered by 1.2 L K-series petrol and 1.3 L DDiS diesel engines respectively, will be joined by the Swift Sport and Swift Hybrid variants albeit at a later stage.

The new generation Swift was unveiled in Japan in December 2016 and is already on sale in multiple countries. However, keeping Indian market dynamics in mind, MSIL chose to launch its compact sedan derivative first. The Dzire and the Swift share the same HEARTECT platform, a similar front-end design, and a nearly identical dashboard layout. The Swift will get the same engine and transmission options as its compact sedan sibling.
