Décongestion des Routes: Retombées Economiques Estimées à Rs 4,5 Milliards
Rs 7 milliards. C’est la somme investie à ce jour dans le Road Decongestion Programme (RDP) du ministère des Infrastructures publiques. Et les bénéfices directs pour l’économie pourraient atteindre les Rs 4,5 milliards en 2014.

This is what emerges from a report tabled by the Minister Anil Bachoo the library of the National Assembly in response to an inquiry from the member Kee Chong Li Kwong Wing. He wanted to know exactly the impact of investments in various projects falling under the RDP.

The report, which is signed by a private consultant,  Infrastructure & Project Finance Navigator Services , establishes that the cost of congestion on the M1 motorway, between Phoenix and Port-Louis, was Rs 3.9 billion in 2011.

This shortfall was due to the economy of lost time, estimated at 30 minutes per day, for each of the 62,077 motorists taking this route regularly. In 2013, estimates were 69,750 vehicles for the same stretch. Thus, with the widening work done on the M1 motorway at a cost of Rs 850 million, the time lost in traffic congestion fell from 30 minutes to about 10 minutes. This is based on these data, the consultant concluded that the gains on the cost of congestion will be Rs 2.6 billion per year in respect of the motorway M1.
