Other times it seems as if the lack of oversight from Amazon and the huge budget have been detrimental. One litmus test for the show will be its first special, which is set in Namibia and will feature the trio trekking across the African country in three dune buggies. The guys have been to Africa before, traveling to Botswana for a "Top Gear" special.
Funnily enough, that special actually ended at the border of Botswana and Namibia. Perhaps the setting of this special is a subtle dig at the BBC?
The premise of the episode is simple enough. Executive producer Andy Wilman, also formerly of "Top Gear," thinks beach buggies are awful. To prove him wrong, Clarkson, Hammond and May build their own buggies and set out to drive across the West African nation. After watching the trailer we're a bit conflicted. The idea of the guys tearing up vast stretches of sand in beach buggies sounds awesome. But there are more laughs and crazy situations to get into behind the wheel of normal cars. Then again, that was basically the premise of the Botswana special. Check out the trailer let us know whether this special will be a hit or miss. Part one debuts December 30th with part two available for viewing the following day.
