The new motorcycle was unveiled at the event by Mr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp.
Part of Hero MotoCorp’s market-specific product strategy, the Dawn 125 has been developed specifically for Africa. The company says that the “durable product” is primarily targeting the commercial segment in the African markets, where motorcycle taxis are popular. The bike places emphasis on the utility requirements of customers such as strength and fuel efficiency.
Features on the Dawn 125 include large headlight, metallic front fender, elongated seat, wide rear carrier and large footrests.
The motorcycle is powered by an air-cooled, four-stroke, OHC single-cylinder engine that delivers a max output of 6.72 kW (9 BHP) @ 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 10.35 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Hero says the motorcycle employs “superior fuel efficient technology.”
The motorcycle will be available in dealerships in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Mozambique among others.
