Hero Inaugurates Colombian Plant, Will Manufacture 10 Models
The world’s largest two-wheeler company (by sales volume), Hero MotoCorp, has inaugurated its new manufacturing plant in Villa Rica town, in Colombia, becoming the first Indian two-wheeler maker to set up a production facility in Latin America.

The inauguration ceremony was graced with the presence of Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia, Pawan Munjal, the Chairman, MD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp, and ministers from the Colombian government.

The new manufacturing facility in Colombia will roll out 10 different models catering to the Latin American markets, including the brand new Hero Dash scooter.

Hero MotoCorp’s new production plant in Colombia, is spread over 17 acres, at the Parque Sur free trade zone at Villa Rica town in the state of Cauca. It is situated at around 500 km south-west of Bogota (capital of Colombia).

The plant has an initial production capacity of 80,000 units per annum, which will be expanded in the next phase to roll out 150,000 units a year. The plant has been built in around 9 months, as part of an INR 465 crores (USD 70 million) project of which INR 252 crores (USD 38 million) has been used thus far in capital expenditure; rest of the allocation will be utilised as working capital over the next few years.

Hero MotoCorp has a sizeable dealership network in the South American country, with 160 touch points across 133 cities. The models available in Colombia are, the Eco Deluxe (HF Deluxe in India), Splendor iSmart, Passion Pro, Super Splendor, Glamour, Thriller (Xtreme), Thriller Sports (Xtreme Sports) and Karizma ZMR. The next addition will be the Hero Dash.
