Ever since Hero split up with Honda, the bike maker is showcasing some fantastic concepts at the Auto Expo. The biennial event in 2016 saw Hero bring out the Hero Xtreme 200S.

The sports bike is expected to be their next high displacement launch, reveals Mr Pawan Munjal. CEO, Hero MotoCorp, in an interview to HinduBusinessLine.

The Hero Xtreme 200S will be Hero's first ever 200 cc bike which will go up against the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, TVS Apache RTR 200 and the newly launched Yamaha FZ 25.

Mr Munjal said

Since the last Auto Expo we have launched three new products across different segments. We are working on further bolstering our premium product portfolio with bikes such as the Xtreme 200S. We displayed our intent at the Auto Expo when we showcased a host of new products, including an electric scooter.

Hero is not just gearing up to sell the conventional petrol powered bikes out and about, but also bring some excitement to the world of electric two-wheelers, a precursor of which was seen in the Hero Duet-E concept, which gets a 5 kV electric motor.

The Hero Xtreme 200S is powered by an air-cooled, single cylinder mill coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 18.6 PS of maximum power at 8,500 rpm and 17.2 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The naked street motorcycle gets disc brakes all around with ABS, a diamond type frame, rear mono shock and LED lights.

The Hero Xtreme 200S is expected to launch in the second half of 2017.
