The New Link Road to Improve Traffic Flow
Any Mauritius can be likened to a vast project for several years. The main reason is that the authorities decided to take the bull by the horns and tackle the problem of traffic congestion.

Most developments in road infrastructure relate to roads leading to homes, offices and other developed sites. This is the case for the M1 and M2. Road networks of this kind require motorists to use diligently the highway, which has a negative impact on traffic flow which is currently operating beyond its capacity.

This results in congestion and delays for users. In this perspective, the authorities responsible for road projects, especially the Road Development Authority (RDA), have examined the development of alternative routes that will divert traffic the highway, making traffic flow.

Thus, a flagship project is the Terre Rouge -Verdun-Trianon Link Road. This project is divided into two phases comprising namely the Terre Rouge - Verdun axis and double axis Verdun-Trianon and Bagatelle-Valentina.

In addition, the Verdun-Trianon Link Road includes construction of a new stretch of road 8, 8 km from Verdun, at the A7 road, until Trianon, up to the M1 motorway. There are also 3 km of road from a new roundabout at Bagatelle, near Belle Terre, Valentina and joining with an interchange on the M1.

Currently work of drains and installation of culverts and other arched culverts are in parallel with the construction of these roads. The RDA has also planned to build bridges to the river Terre Rouge, Cascade and Aubert, Feeder Jacquot. The installation of handrails, side markings, shoulders, street lights and security grilles is also planned. For the authorities, the Red-Earth-Verdun Trianon Link Road will give new impetus to the movement. It will connect directly to the north and south. Much of the traffic on the M1 and M2 will be relieved by a new corridor between North and South, which prevent motorists to pass through Port Louis.

On the other hand, the Link Road will revive economic development in the districts of Moka Pamplemousses and through a stable connection, fast and efficient road traffic. Motorists will travel for less time. Similarly, the costs of gasoline consumption in congestion will be reduced. It is the same for pollution caused by the emission of carbon dioxide.

The contract for the dual-axis Verdun-Trianon Trifle and Valentina was allocated to the consortium JV Gamma / BCEG for an amount of about Rs 1.58 billion. Work has progressed to 55% and will be completed by next year. These are the African Development Bank and the Government of Mauritius who fund this project.
