Reunion: Protests Against Fuel Price
Tension fell a notch since Wednesday noon. Throughout the island, roadblocks were lifted one by one, after two days of action by the Inter professionals of the road to protest against rising oil prices.

Thursday morning, the device is still in police station at the Port, to the strategic location of the SRPP, although leaner until late Wednesday afternoon. To 17h in fact, no fewer than four truckloads of mobile guards had surrounded the site of the oil distributor.

In all likelihood, no further movement of carriers should take place before yet another meeting between the prefect and representatives of the Inter-professional road scheduled for Friday.

But vigilance around the site of the Port is still required because the authorities fear isolated acts of carriers ready to anticipate the orders of the Inter. After being relatively spared in recent days (one dam Cambaie), Western Port and the city are the subject of much attention.

For his part, Didier Robert, president of the Region, welcomed the lifting of roadblocks: "a decision to allow a resumption of economic activity," he says in a statement Wednesday. "Today I salute the sense of responsibility that is expressed. At a time when the meeting through an economic crisis without precedent, the decision to remove the dams is an important step forward that goes in the direction of interest our economy and Reunion, "he says before recalling the decisions taken in recent days. Particular the significant drop in gas prices at 15 euros instead of 21.76 euros as of 1 mas.

Another measure : the establishment, for the first time, the commercial diesel bound for carriers. In this context, the Region undertakes an immediate first shell of 4 million euros. This device can be extended on the basis of modalities to be finalized in other occupational categories (artisans, merchants, farmers), the statement of President of the Regional Council.

As for a drop of fuel for all the islanders, the president of the Region announces the establishment of a group of work and a broad debate on the issue of fuel in Reunion. "Among the approaches mentioned, controlling the rising cost of energy, the revision of the dock dues on volumes or an exemption European to get a supply for cheaper than that currently practiced, "the statement said.
