Sevetal bus companies plan to implement the smart card
Bus tickets can be paid by a magnetic card soon. The National Transport Company (NTC) and several other bus operators are planning to launch this system.

“In all developed countries, uses these cards," said a senior officer of the NTC. "This should reduce our operating costs. If the system is computerized, it will be great. We will have a larger pool of drivers. When a receiver of buses does not work then the bus must stay in the garage. But with the smart card, the buses will run normally. We worked on a report that was submitted to the department. Now it's up to him to decide what to do."

"This system is used in England, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. As the Mauritian government wants a modern means of transport, these cards will have a more efficient system. It will be better if a single operator manages the system. "

Smart cards will handle the payment of those benefiting from the bus for free transport. "The system will be computerized and all buses will be equipped with a Global Positioning System. The National Transport Authority will monitor all buses," said the officer of the NTC.

Bus passengers include private clients, students and seniors. The operator will advise the Government on the number of students and older people who use buses, which will make easy the subsidies allocation.
