A train driver was killed after his train collided with another at Denver station, south of Johannesburg.

About 80 others were injured in the incident, said ER24’s Russel Meiring.

“ER24 paramedics, along with various services, arrived on the scene and found the wrecked trains blocking the tracks completely. Bent metal and parts of the train had been spread across the scene,” said Meiring.

One woman was found trapped between the train and a wall. Rescue services and paramedics worked to free her from the wreckage before treatment could continue, said Meiring.

The woman was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

It is believed that one train was stationary and was rear-ended by another train, Netcare911’s Santi Steinmann said.
