St Pierre Bypass to be ready by Dec
Work on the St Pierre bypass is expected to start in November 2011 and be completed by the end of next year.

The bypass, estimated to cost Rs 235 million, will be 4.3 km long. It will start at Apollo Bramwell and end at Verdun village.

According to an officer from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, this bypass aims to decongest the regions of St Pierre, Gentilly and Helvetia that have become crowded due to the setting up of the new building of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and the Helvetia Commercial Centre.

Meanwhile, construction work on the Phoenix / Beaux Songes link road will be completed within two weeks. This was stated by a senior official from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, National Development Unit, Land Transport and Shipping.

Work on the new road started in January 2010. The construction of the 6.8 kilometre link road has been undertaken by the Colas Company at a cost of Rs 280 million.
According to the officer, this bypass will help decongest traffic in Palma and St Jean. There is a heavy influx of traffic towards Palma and Flic en Flac and other places located in the west of the island.

However, there is only one road that gives access to this part of the island. Hence, the main objective of the Phoenix / Beaux Songes link road is to decongest traffic, save time and reduce accidents.
