33 Deaths on Our Roads Since January
January 1 to March 22 of this year, the number of casualties on our roads was 33, ten foot, twelve drivers, seven passengers, three cyclists and an assistant driver.

If this trend continues, it adds to the Traffic Branch, the number of victims of road accidents should be higher than 2012, when there had been 156 deaths. The optimism, however, is leveling the government regarding braking this trend with the introduction of penalty points early April and installation of 'speed cameras' in 'black spots'. In total, 62 'speed cameras' will be operational by 2014. Targeted areas are Abercombie, Bamboos, Bell Village, Camp de Masque, Vallijee City, Coromandel, Curepipe, Goodlands, Riche-Terre and Trianon, among others.

No later than Thursday, the Prime Minister, who attended the opening of the Kia showroom at straws lamented the high number of accidents on our roads. But he said he expected a change in the behavior of drivers with the introduction of penalty points "within ten days". Same story at the police said that the purpose of penalty points is to encourage drivers to obey the rules of the road. Its operation is the initial credit: 10 points for those with a learner and 15 points for other drivers.

Encourage drivers to respect traffic

The license points, called 'Counterpart Driving Licence' by the authorities, aims to empower drivers, including forcing them to respect scrupulously the rules of the road. Under the point system, the offenses are punished as follows: 8-10 points for reckless driving, manslaughter and injuries and strokes, 6-8 points for speeding more than 50 km / h to limit 4 to 8 points for failing to stop at an accident, 4 to 6 points for speeding more than 25 km / h limit, 4-6 points for non-compliance with the priority pedestrian crossing and overtaking vehicle on a pedestrian crossing, 3-6 points for use of vehicle without lights prescribed for unsecured cargo on the vehicle, reckless driving, failure to lanes on the highway and for refusing to give way priority 2 to 4 points for speeding less than 25 km / h limit to use your phone while driving, for refusing to obey police instructions, for not worn belt driving and not wearing the helmet for duplication on the white line and the non-compliance with traffic signs.

The driver whose license was canceled for the first time can recover automatically after six months. However, repeat offenders will have to start from scratch, or reapply for 'driving test' at the end of the six month disqualification. The maximum life of a permit is 36 months, after which all points deducted will be reallocated.

The fines imposed on offenders will be revised upwards: Rs 2000 for speeding (currently Rs 500), Rs 2000 for non-compliance signaling (currently Rs 500), Rs 500 for non-compliance with the priority a pedestrian crossing (currently Rs 200), Rs 500 for exceeding the crosswalk (currently Rs 200) and Rs 2000 for mobile phone use while driving (currently Rs 1500).
