An air hostess working for the national airline Air Mauritius, died in a road accident at Beau Bassin on Saturday.

Windy Hema Seetohul, 34, was returning from a night out at a nightclub in Flic en Flac.

Seetohul, who is the mother of a 12-year-old girl, was on her way home at 2 am when she collided with a taxi, while trying to overtake another car. She died on the spot.

According to her mother Ansuya Seetohul, the victim left home at around 10 pm on Saturday to relax because she was very stressed due to the upcoming exams. Seetohul was studying law.

Many people came to pay tribute to the victim at her residence on Sunday. Her brother Sim and her mother were inconsolable after the funeral. They couldn’t come to terms with the Hema’s sudden death.

According to a neighbour, Seetohul was a nice person who was always smiling. “This is unbelievable. No one can accept her death,” said the neighbor.

One of her friends said that the accident could have been avoided if she had worn her seat belt. The medical officer attributed the death to shock and internal bleeding. She was also wounded in the neck and ribs.

The occupants of the taxi, including Abhishek, 16, Atish, 22, Mahesh Rishidev, 25 and the driver, Vimal Vishwameetra, 21, were rushed to Dr A G Jeetoo hospital. According to a source, the four men are all out of danger. The taxi driver, however, had to receive stitches due to an open knee wound. One of the victims said they were looking for a shop when the accident happened.

Investigators have opened an investigation to shed light on the case.
