It was shock at the Bon Accueil on Friday afternoon when a car swept 10 students from nearby college who were standing at a bus stop. The girls were waited for their buses to return home. Four of them were seriously injured and six others received small injuries.

The level of health of two of the four injured is causing concern. They were placed to the intensive care unit and the two others are being treated in hospital in Flacq.

The driver, 55-years old, is local. Official by profession, he was employed at the Ministry of Agro Industry.

The driver was in a black hole while he was driving. Supposedly he lost control of the car. After the accident, he discarded his car at the scene and fled for fear of being attacked by the locals. He headed straight to the police station.

Yasna, one of the injured, aged 14, points out that critical day; their bus had left the school as the bell sounded a little later than usual. She and her friends went to a bus stop near the path “Mission Crossroad”. Yasna had the ankle up crushed and pieces of glass lodged in his arm. She underwent surgery - taxi driver transported Yasna to hospital. Her parents say they are outraged by the accident. “Children are not safe on the roads”, they say.

Chitrani, one of the Yasna’s friends, explains on his hospital bed that she does not remember the thread of events too. She had seen a car that was riding straight for her. Then she sank into unconsciousness. She was wounded in the left leg.

Accident is under police investigation.
