Police Probe Hit-And-Run Possibility In Cyclist’s Death
Police have concluded, after an inquiry that the accident in which Frederick Meurier lost his life on Sunday was a hit-and-run.

Investigators are also probing the possibility that Meurier’s ex-girlfriend orchestrated the hit and run after his relatives expressed concerns about the woman’s attitude towards Meurier.

The Criminal Investigation Division of Beau-Bassin officers, under the supervision of SP Maunkee, are currently interrogating people in the locality to shed more light on the matter.

The investigators revealed that they found suspicious brake marks near the body. The victim was found in a pool of blood lying on the road of Suer Mont Street at Mare Gravier, Beau Bassin on the Easter Sunday.

The autopsy conducted by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, the chief police medical officer, attributed the death to multiple injuries including several broken ribs. Meurier was being carried to the Victoria hospital when he passed away. In a dying statement Meurier told police that he was returning home on bicycle when a 4×4 van hit him and drove off. The police investigation is ongoing.
