Toddler Killed In Freak Home Accident
A toddler was crushed under a car in Riche Mare on Sunday while playing near a car on which his father Evin Ramoodoo, a mechanic, had been working.

The initial inquiry carried out by the police has established that the child’s father rushed to the garage where the car was located after hearing his child screaming.

Further investigation has revealed that Ramoodoo had been changing the tyres of the car which was up on a jack earlier and had not engaged the handbrake.

Attempts were made to lift up the jack after the child was crushed but failed due to it being jammed.

Flacq police officers towed the vehicle to investigate further whether the vehicle is in a defective state and a team from the Scene of Crime office collected samples from the site to conduct further analysis.

Ramoodoo is currently being detained and will be appearing in the Flacq district court on Monday.

The child’s body was transported to Candos Hospital in Flacq where chief police medical officer, Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, pronounced the child dead and attributed the death to be as a result of a fractured skull. The mother of the child was also taken to hospital after she fainted when the incident happened.

According to the neighbours, the family were a happy one and the child usually played in the yard. The father is currently being detained and is set to appear in court on Monday.
